What do the Terpenes in Cannabis do?

Most people tend to think that the only compound that matters in cannabis is THC, but studies have shown over and over again that the cannabinoids in the plant provide a wide range of benefits that are equally important, if not even more so. Because of this, more and more people have been learning about the benefits of CBD and the market for it has exploded in recent years.

Now, researchers and consumers alike are looking deeper than ever into all the ways that cannabis can provide relief from more specific issues like gastric reflux, epilepsy, psychosis, inflammation, etc., and that's how we ended up focusing on something called "terpenes".

Terpenes are molecules that naturally occur in a variety of plants like herbs, citrus rinds, pine needles, and hops. There are more than a hundred known terpenes that can be found in cannabis, and each one can alter the taste and smell of the plant, as well as the way it affects the human body.

Here are a few of the main ones:

Limonene

Also present in citrus fruits, D-Limonene may act as an anti-fungal, anti-tumor, immunostimulant, and may help treat depression, anxiety, and gastric reflux. It has a lemony, citrusy aroma and can be found in strains like Girl Scout Cookies and Tangerine Dream.

A-Pinene

Alpha-Pinene can be found in hops, and has been used as an anti-inflammatory and a treatment for asthma. It tends to have a piney, woody aroma and is known to be in strains like Vanilla Kush and Cookie Cross.

Caryophyllene

Found in black pepper, Beta-Caryophyllene may be used as an anti-septic, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-tumor, and anti-inflammatory, as well as provide mild pain relief. It has a peppery aroma and is known to be in strains like Pineapple Express and Sage N Sour.

Myrcene

Beta-Myrcene is found in many different plants including mangos, bay leaves, hops, lemongrass, eucalyptus and more. It may be used to treat pain, spasms, and insomnia, as well as provide anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory effects. Myrcene has a musky, herbal aroma and is present in strains like Chemdog and Agent Orange.

Linalool

Lavender, citrus, rosewood, coriander, and other plants contain Linalool, which may help treat anxiety, pain, and psychosis, as well as act as an anti-epileptic. It has a sweet, floral aroma and is found in strains like Sour Diesel and Bubble Gum.

Humulene

Humulene is in conifer trees and orange peels, and has been known have appetite suppressant, anti-inflammatory, and an anti-bacterial properties. It has an earthy, spicy aroma and strains like Gorilla Glue and Green Crack contain plenty of it.

These are only a handful of the known terpenes found in cannabis and as you can see, they can potentially provide a wide range of medicinal benefits. Thankfully, cannabis (whether hemp or marijuana) is known to be packed with these as well as dozens of other terpenes that have helped to provide relief for millions of people around the world. At Nature's Miracle Hemp Boutique in Biloxi, MS, we do our due diligence to learn exactly which terpenes are in the strains we carry and how each one affects us, so that we can better direct people to the specific strains that can help with their unique situations.

The Benefits of Smokable CBD Hemp Flower

CBD Hemp Flower (buds from cannabis plants bred to contain less than 0.3% THC) has been rapidly growing in popularity in recent years, and for good reason. People all over the world have reported relief from anxiety, aches and pains, and more after smoking or vaping hemp flower, thanks to its high CBD content. CBD is an acronym for cannabidiol, which is one of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana).       Studies have shown that the CBD in hemp flower can act as an anti-inflammatory and pain reliever, while also providing a soothing, calming euphoria without the "high" that comes from THC (the psychoactive chemical in marijuana). Not only can it potentially help with a range of physical aspects, it has also been shown to possibly help with things like depression, addiction, and anxiety by "taking the edge off" and enabling some people to finally relax naturally, without the need for prescription medication and all its unwanted side-effects.       Inhal
